Jason Colavito complains about Oumuamua-hypothesizer Avi Loeb for his style and arrogance in this piece, not contesting the sense of his intellectual contributions. As if many prominent figures don’t engage in self-promotion. But this first part of Jason’s article is quite succinct and informative. Jason then turns to a former Blink-182 bandmate of Tom DeLonge with Travis Barker’s dialogue with Joe Rogan about DeLonge’s UFO obsession. What comes out of this is troubling but not exactly new about DeLonge. Confessed hoaxing is part of the story in Letters to and from Charles Bowen, April 12 and 26, 1966. The Monguzzi photos are more famous than the story behind them, and there are other historical nuggets in this exchange between the then-editor of Flying Saucer Review and the earnest John Keel. Not so much regarded as fraudulent, but having certainly lost favor as an accurate instrument for uncovering repressed or otherwise sidetracked memories is Mesmerism (Hypnotism) in Ufology. Yet we don’t see it following from Rich Reynolds’ interesting discussion that UFO abduction events not the product of hypnotic recall can be dismissed as unreliable. (WM)
