John Keel still has many fans in the UFO community, but Rich Reynolds is not so enamored of the late fortean anymore. He believes that Keel was “apparently demented because of the supposed communications by ‘the others’ that took over his life about which he wrote extensively.” He also believes that Keel was perhaps a closeted homosexual, though his relationship with “Ingrid,” as described in the Anomalist Book edition of Jadoo, and his apparent relationship with Lynn Catoe (who at the Library of Congress was putting together a UFO bibliography for the University of Colorado Condon Committee) as described in Special Cases – File Three (14): A Fuse Blown, a Tape Erased, seems to put that conjecture in doubt. But we’ll grant Rich that Keel at least displayed a “patina of madness.” His dairy entires, such as the most recent one posted by Doug Skinner Special File – Volume Three (13): Mumps, certain do support that conclusion.
