Killer Whales and Chimpanzees Have Similar Personalities – Scientific American

Welcome to another installment of It Doesn’t Have To Be Paranormal To Be Weird. Apparently there are some very specific traits used by scientists to assess personality, and some weirdo decided it would be a good idea to apply those personality measurements to Orcas. (No lie, that’s the person we want to hang with at a party.) Turns out Chimps and Killer Whales have similar characteristics, which makes the seating arrangements easier should interspecies marriage become a thing. Then someone asked, Do Animals Feel Grief? That someone had clearly never had a pet of their own, putting this study in the category of Smart People Asking Dumb Questions. In short, of course they feel grief. This next post might best be read without any food nearby unless you are a fan of eating octopus. ( It’s those suction cups. And those weird belly teeth.) Octopuses are smart, inventive creatures. Factory farming them would be a disaster., and not because they would secretly build little getaway vehicles and go joy riding. An octopus is carnivorous, so any efforts to feed one in a captive bred situation will result in even more over fishing of the oceans than currently exists. And when octopuses finally go all Kraken and rise up to take over the world and free their captive brethren, we will be hiding in a locked room somewhere trying to think of a vegan happy place on dry land.
