Victorian state Labor MP Will Fowles has resigned from the parliamentary Labor Party amid ‘serious’ assault allegations.

Caitlin McNamara says she was attacked by Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, 69, on Valentine’s Day earlier this year in Abu Dhabi, while she was there organising the Hay festival.

On Saturday police announced they have arrested the man behind the brutal assault of a woman, 78, riding the New York subway on March 10. The suspect has been identified as Marc Gomez.
