Sydney’s Northern Beaches mayor Michael Regan pleaded for the ‘south zone’ lockdown to end ahead of New Year’s Eve, as it didn’t make sense for them to continue with so few cases.
Ulladulla Leisure Centre, in the Shoalhaven region of the NSW South Coast, was forced to close on Monday after the 70-year-old man visited the venue despite being told to stay put on northern beaches.
The mystery outbreak was identified on Wednesday afternoon when a couple in their 60s and 70s tested positive having visited nine venues across the Northern Beaches instead of self-isolating.
Anyone in Victoria who has been in the northern beaches on or since December 11 should isolate and get tested, health authorities said.
