Victoria has recorded 77 new cases of coronavirus, its biggest total since March 3The state has now suffered 289 new cases since Monday as 36 north Melbourne suburbs are locked down.

The entire state of Victoria could be forced back into lockdown if the number of new coronvirus cases continues to rise

Victoria has reported 73 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday. Around 300,000 Melbourne residents from 10 postcodes have been ordered back into lockdown.

Chief Health Officer Brendan Sutton today said he would recommend ‘anything necessary’ to stop the spread after 75 new cases were reported on Monday.

Only one case is a traveller in hotel quarantine, 14 are linked to known outbreaks and 37 were picked up through testing.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced the new rules on Sunday as he revealed officials had performed 40,000 tests over three days as part of a testing blitz in ten hotspot suburbs in Melbourne.
