What a nightmare it must be to find yourself staring into the face of someone you clearly recognize yet feel none of the familiar emotions that signal a bond between you. Clearly it’s a case of body snatchers and pod people. Or dopplegangers a la Vampire Diaries. Or more likely it is a case of the as-yet-untreatable Capgras Delusion. For a person suffering from this bizarre malady, looking at the face of a loved one would have the same impact as More Strange and Mysterious Photographs of Unidentified People. For as long as there have been photographs, there have been images of people about whom little or nothing is known. Some depict a story, others depict misery. But none give any indication of identity, lending a certain forlorn air of mystery and loss to what has been captured on photographic paper for eternity. (CM)
