Why Jose Caravaca's "Distortion Theory" Is Interesting – UFO Conjectures

Those bemoaning the lack of new theoretical thought in the UFO field should grant Spanish ufologist-journalist Jose Antonio Caravaca some thoughtful consideration. Thus Rich Reynolds argues for Caravaca’s attempt at explaining UFO (and other) “Close Encounters.” Even those with fundamental reservations about elements of the “still being formulated” approach regard this a worthwhile effort. Rich’s Lucian: A Precursor to Contactees and Alien [UFO] Abductees also treats of close contacts. Rich notes that the 2nd century CE Roman satirist “provides scenarios that could have come from the 1950s Contactees crowd and a slew of so-called ‘experiencers.'” Continuing the “Close Encounters” theme, A UFO Abduction or Military Experiment? recalls a 1980 abduction claim that seemingly could stem from human as well as alien hijinks. Yet the purpose(s) for either agency seem equally murky. Muddier still is the subject of Special File–Volume Three (18): A Letter from Appell, November 1967. This is the second of two letters to John Keel from the leader of the aliens/androids with whom John was in contact, and conclude this “Special File.” It “clears up” several matters, yet questions remain, including the most basic one: Who, or What, is/are behind all of this?
